Stoichkov Tells Barcelona: Get Berbatov
Former Barcelona striker Hristo Stoichkov admits he would sign Dimitar Berbatov if he was president of the Blaugrana.
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Bulgarian’s future at White Hart Lane and he has in the past been linked with several major European clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well Italian giants Milan and Inter.
Stoichkov, who enjoyed a successful period at Camp Nou in the mid nineties, believes the Blaugrana should sign the Tottenham Hotspur hit-man.
“If I was Barcelona president, I would sign Berbatov straightaway,” Stoichkov told Sport ES.
The former Bulgarian international also had a few words on the Blaugrana’s poor season this term.
“The team did have it tough this season but they did play some good games," he said.
“The objective at Barcelona is to always win the title.”
With a number of Barcelona strikers looking set for moves elsewhere, the chance for Berbatov may arrive, but not without some serious spending, as Spurs are extremely keen to hold onto their man.
Tottenham are known to be very interested in Samuel Eto'o, and have already declared that they could let Berbatov leave if the right offer came in. Under the circumstances, a deal should not prove to be too difficult should Barcelona be keen on it.
Reports in the Spanish press, however, have linked Barcelona with forwards such as Rodrigo Palacio, Karim Benzema, Klaas Jan Huntelaar and David Villa.
