Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has lamented his side’s poor performance in their 2-1 FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea, labelling it as “not good enough”.
Defensive mistakes lead to Ramires opening the scoring for the Blues, before Didier Drogba extended the their lead after the break.
The introduction of second-half substitute Andy Carroll brought life into Kenny Dalglish’s charges, but in the end it was too late to stop the west Londoners’ claiming the trophy.
Agger told talkSPORT: “We didn’t show up for the first hour and that is not good enough in an FA Cup final.”
Chelsea dominated the final for the majority of the game, enjoying long periods of possession without much pressure from their opposition, until Liverpool sprang into action in the final 30 minutes.
But the Danish centre-back was insistent that Liverpool’s poor performance was to blame for their Wembley defeat, not Chelsea’s dominance.
“The facts are that we lost this game 2-1 and we didn’t lose it because Chelsea played well but I think because we started the game really, really badly,” he continued.
“We can only blame ourselves.”
