The Spanish international was reportedly close to joining the defending La Liga champions in the transfer window, but eventually decided to stay with El Submarino Amarillo.
Today he explained his decision to AS, and said he is happy that he decided to stay rather than leave.
"I have forgotten about all the business in the summer. It is true that it was a mess - when they caught me in a telephone conversation saying I would go to Madrid - but in the end I decided to stay with Villarreal," he said.
"It was my decision and I do not believe that I have to explain myself anymore.
"I am pleased with the decision that I made. Since the day I arrived at Villarreal I have been very happy, and I continue being so, therefore I know that it is good and I expect to be here for many more years."
Naturally there have been questions raised about how the fans of Real Madrid will react to Cazorla at the Bernabéu this weekend. However, the Spaniard admitted that he does not know what will happen, but he will be concentrating on the match.
"I am going to play football and do what I can do," he declared.
"I have forgotten, the page has been turned, and now it is just another game. It is special only because we are playing in the Bernabéu, and that is a great stadium, but not for anything more."
Following the transfer saga in the summer Cazorla was accused by some of having a lack of ambition, but today he strongly denied this was true, and briefly analysed the importance of the match for his side.
"One must respect everyones opinions, but if anyone knows Villarreal, they know they have more ambition, want to grow and become bigger. Villarreal are becoming more and more respected and to be here is a privilege," he offered.
"We arrive at the match well prepared and therefore it is key to start with the year with confidence. Madrid continues being Madrid, whether they are doing badly or well. They always win games, are always around the top, and are strong at home."
