Villarreal have an intricate visit to the Spanish capital on Sunday to kick-start 2009 when they take on the reigning La Liga champions, Real Madrid.

But the team’s zippy striker, Nihat Kahveci, is optimistic about his side’s prospects of pulling off a surprise victory at the Bernabéu, with the allure of history acting as an extra slice of motivation. The Turk has a chance to score the club’s 500th goal, and he is keen to seize that opportunity.

“All the goals are important, but it would be a dream for me if I could score goal number 500, especially in a difficult ground like the one in Madrid,” Nihat was quoted as saying by AS.

“It is always fantastic to enter into the history books of a club because you will always treasure it.”

“It is clear that we believe we can win in Madrid. Besides, we have to if we want to improve our position in the league.

“We will have respect for them, but we are going there to win. We played a good match against Barcelona [in the last game] and that will give us a lot of confidence.”
