Llorente has also linked up supremely well with former Manchester United man Giuseppe Rossi, so it will be a huge blow to coach Manuel Pellegrini to see his strike force broken up through injury.
Villarreal's medical team today confirmed that the test results showed a moderate muscle strain which will require at least three weeks of rehabilitation and another week to regain to full fitness.
The injury occurred as Llorente grabbed his six La Liga goal of the campaign but he could not prevent his side slipping to a 2-2 draw away to Malaga, a result which put Barcelona three points clear at the top of the table.
Meanwhile, Sebastien Eguren, who picked up a head knock in the same match, has pulled out of Uruguay's international friendly to allow his wound, which required 14 stitches, to completely heal before the weekend visit of Valladolid.
