The Georgian FA has released an official statement that Argentinian coach Hector Cuper has stepped down from his position as Georgia national team coach with immediate effect.
Cuper was appointed in August 2008, but the former Inter manager failed to make an impact on the national side as they finished last in their World Cup Qualification group.
Georgia failed to win a single match and collected only three points from ten games. They drew against Cyprus, Bulgaria and Montenegro.
Cuper's contract with the Georgian FA was due to expire in December 2009, but the 53-year-old opted to resign in order to make way for a new manager.
Greek side Aris Saloniki are reportedly keen on signing Cuper as their new head coach. They parted company with Oleg Protasov about a week ago and have been in the market for a new manager ever since.
