Jeremie Aliadiere is set to miss up to eight weeks of the season as he recovers form an ankle injury, Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate was able to confirm today.
The Frenchman was stretchered off during Boro's FA Cup third round tie with non-league Barrow at the weekend, the result of a heavy challenge that damaged ankle ligaments.
Now the player has been ordered to rest for a couple of weeks, and a protective cast will be fitted to his lower leg.
"Immediately after the game we were upbeat because there was no break, but unfortunately he’s going to be missing for a while," Boro boss Gareth Southgate told the club’s website.
There is some slightly better news for the Teesiders as well, though. Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones, understudy to Ross Turnbull at the Riverside, has signed a new deal with the club that will keep him at Middlesbrough until 2012. The 26-year old had been linked with moves away from the North-East in recent days.
