Davies had been subject to a club-record bid by Hull City earlier this summer, as Phil Brown’s Premier League debutants sought to add striking options to their side.

However, Bolton manager Gary Megson responded to the transfer speculation by offering the 31-year-old Davies a new contract, which is to be signed in the next few days.

Talks between the player and club were temporarily shelved while Bolton completed their pre-season Greek programme, but both parties are now ready to sit down and trash out a deal.

Davies has been at the Reebok since 2003, and has made over 170 league appearances for the club. He claims to be ‘settled’ in the area, and is happy to remain a Bolton player.

He told the Bolton News:  "We are in talks and that's where we stand at the moment. I'm settled here so it is just down to myself and the club. I'm very positive about it, so hopefully we can get something tied up by the start of the season."
