Fifa suspends Mohamed bin Hammam's aide, Najeeb Chirakal
The sport's international governing body has opted to sanction the activities of the former presidential candidate's assistant, due to a failure to cooperate with investigations
Fifa has opted to slap the aide of Mohamed bin Hammam, Najeeb Chirakal, with a ban from participating in football-related activities, after failing to comply with ongoing investigations into his employer.Prosecutor Michael J. Garcia is currently keeping tabs on Bin Hammam's past activities, which have included alleged bribery during his election campaign against Fifa president Sepp Blatter last year.
'Najeeb Chirakal, a football official and as such covered by the Fifa Code of Ethics 2012, has today been banned by the Fifa Ethics Committee from taking part in all football-related activity,' read a statement on the governing organisation's website.
'Due to his lack of collaboration with the ongoing investigation proceedings opened against Mohamed bin Hammam, this failure to cooperate constitutes a breach of the Fifa Code of Ethics.
'The ban is effective immediately and will last for two months or until Chirakal cooperates with these proceedings as requested, whichever is earlier.'
Chirakal was accused by Fifa of failing to respond to requests to provide documents and information sought after by Garcia to facilitate investigations into Bin Hammam's practices, who faces charges for violating codes of ethics.
