Davide Ballardini’s Palermo have climbed to 11th position in the Serie A standings, and are now just four points adrift of the 4th placed Napoli, as a result of their impressive 3-1 victory over Milan earlier tonight.
Three goals in the second half to Fabrizio Miccoli, Edison Cavani and Fabio Simplicio, were enough for the home side to easily account for their opponents.
At the conclusion of the contest, the Palermo boss commented on the performance of his players, and his pleasure with accounting for the Rossoneri.
“We played a great game tonight,” said an ecstatic Ballardini.
When asked about his attacking duo of Miccoli and Cavani, the Sicilian boss claimed that, “Miccoli was in devastating touch, and it’s no surprise to me, as he has been working extremely hard recently, whilst Cavani was great, and did everything I asked him to do.
“It is a great feeling to defeat the team that is the favourites for the Scudetto, in my opinion.
“They aren’t in the Champions League, and so I think they will be the champions at the end of the season,” he added.
“Despite this however, we still lack continuity at Palermo, and we need to get more consistency in our performances.
“We have a fairly young side, and so we have plenty of room for improvement,” he concluded.
Ballardini will be hoping that his side can continue the outstanding form they showed earlier tonight, when they travel to Sardinia to face Cagliari next weekend.
