22-year-old Edu officially joined Rangers from Toronto FC this week having received clearance for his work permit and will be free to play for the Ibrox club as soon as the relevant paperwork has been finalised.

And the American midfielder has revealed that he is dreaming of making his Scottish Football bow against the Celts in what he describes as the biggest derby in world football.

“The Old Firm derby is something that I would love to experience right away. I do not know how my involvement is going to play out but I really look forward to playing in that game if it is possible,” Edu told the club’s official website.

“I know there is a huge rivalry between Rangers and Celtic. What a potential first game that would be, to play in the biggest derby game in world football. It would be unbelievable for me,” he added.

“If it did work out like that I would be more than excited as I cannot think of a better possible debut than that. I am excited about the new chapter in my career, although I will miss Toronto FC and their amazing supporters – they gave me my first professional start and the club will always have a special meaning for me”.

Both of the fierce Old Firm rivals have made steady starts to their respective SPL campaigns, securing seven points from a possible nine. Rangers’ season, however, will be marred throughout by their disastrous Champions League exit at the hands of Lithuanian side FBK Kaunas in what was just the second qualifying round.
