Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill was one of the Premier League's big spenders in the summer accruing a completed shopping list that ran up a bill of in excess of £50 million.

Big money moves for Curtis Davies, Luke Young, Carlos Cuellar, James Milner Nicky Shorey, Steve Sidwell, and Brad Friedel all added to Villa's armoury and O'Neill was satisfied with the depth he had to launch a successful assualt in domestic competition and abroad.

The midlands club currently find themselves in fifth position, with the same point total as Arsenal, and O'Neill feels that if his side are to maintain that position through to the rest of the season then further reinforcements will be required when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Strength In Depth

"We will be trying to bring in players in the window," he is quoted by the Mirror as saying.

"We are looking to improve the depth and quality of the squad."

One player that is supposedly on Villa's radar is Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour, but Arsenal are also reportedly interested in the Belgium international.

A striker is also on O'Neill's wishlist with Wigan Athletic and England bruiser Emile Heskey interesting the Northern Irishman. The pair worked closely together during their time at Leicester City.
