Young has been in fine form for the Villans this season, so much so that he was named September's Premier League Player of the Month.
The 23-year-old is yet to be given the chance to strut his stuff on the international stage, however, as Stewart Downing, Shaun Wright-Phillips and David Beckham have been preferred for England's World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Belarus.
But the former Watford player's turn may soon come, as Villa team-mate Gareth Barry revealed that Capello wrote to Young and informed him that he is nearing a call-up.
"Ashley had a letter from the manager saying he is close," Barry told The Sun. "So he knows he is not far away and just needs to keep playing well for Villa.
"Time is definitely on Ashley’s side, too. He knows he’s playing well and that his time will come — and that’s good."
Young is one of several Villans nearing national selection, as Capello is also thought to be keeping tabs on Gabriel Agbonlahor and Nigel Reo-Coker.
