Bayern Munich Cruise To Victory Over Bochum
Despite losing Miroslav Klose to an early injury and missing a penalty, Bayern eased to a comfortable win over Bochum at the Rewirpower Stadion.
VfL Bochum 0-3 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich sealed a 3-0 away win over Bochum to stay four points behind leaders Hertha Berlin. Goals from Ze Roberto, Philipp Lahm and Martin Demichelis made up for a penalty miss from Lukas Podolski and an injury to Miroslav Klose.
First Half
The first got underway and it was the home side who created the first opportunity after four minutes. Stanislav Sestak received the ball at the bye-line and beat Daniel van Buyten. His shot however hit only the side netting.
Bochum made the better impression in the opening few minutes with Marcel Koller’s side aggressive and not allowing Bayern the time to settle on the ball.
With 13 minutes on the clock the home side carved out a huge chance but failed to make it count. Christophe Dabrowski headed the ball on to Sestak, who played the ball back to the midfielder. He burst into the area to find himself one-on-one with Michael Rensing, but the Bayern keeper won the battle with a fine save.
Five minutes later came the first Bayern Munich chance of the game. Ze Roberto played a lofted pass over the Bochum defence to Bastian Schweinsteiger. The midfielder was however a little surprised to receive the ball and failed to make a decent contact with the ball.
Bayern then started to increase the pressure without actually creating too many clear cut chances. Bochum were dangerous mainly from set-pieces.
On the half hour mark Miroslav Klose had to limp off with a foot injury and Juergen Klinsmann sent on Jose Ernesto Sosa for a rare appearance. The loss didn’t seem to have an effect though and Bayern scored a minute later.
A long ball saw van Buyten out-jump Pfertzel and the ball landed at the feet of Ze Roberto. The veteran Brazilian hit the ball from 16 meters out into the net with some power. Following the goal Bochum showed a little more endeavour, but with Bayern were compact at the back and allowed the hosts very little space.
Second Half
The second-half began with a moment of great excitement as Bayern were awarded a penalty and Bochum reduced to ten men with the sending off of Frenchman Marc Pfertzel.
Jose Sosa broke through and the Bochum defender brought him down with a professional foul and rightly saw the red card. Lukas Podolski stepped up for the spot-kick, but fired wide of the goal with keeper Fernandes diving completely the wrong way.
A long shot from Daniel van Buyten on 57 minutes was then claimed easily by Bochum keeper Fernandes. On the hour mark though and Bayern did make up for the penalty miss with their second goal of the game.
Schweinsteiger played the ball at just the right moment into the run of Philipp Lahm and the Bayern full-back took the ball round Dabrowski before firing past Fernandes from ten meters out.
Four minutes later and it should have been 3-0 to the Bavarians. Ze Roberto passed to Podolski deep but Sosa got in his way and the great chance went begging with Fernandes on hand to clear up the confusion. Podolski fired in a shot soon after, that missed the goal by centimeters.
The home side just didn’t seem to have the stamina with a man less to cause a similar surprise to the one they did in the reverse fixture when they held Bayern to a 3-3 draw at the Allianz Arena. The visitors seemed content to play the ball around and wait for the chances to arise.
The killer blow was dealt to VfL Bochum in the 90th minute when Martin Demichelis scored Bayern’s third of the afternoon. A counter attack saw Lukas Podolski play the ball square to the supporting Argentine and he scored with ease from ten meters out.
