Luca Toni: Bayern Munich Need To Repeat European Form In The Bundesliga

Bayern striker Luca Toni wants to see a repetition of their gala display in Lisbon when they meet Werder Bremen this weekend.

Luca Toni - Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni, who hit two goals in the midweek demolition of Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League, is demanding that the Bavarians maintain that level of performance when they meet Werder Bremen at the Weser Stadion on Sunday.

Juergen Klinsmann’s side may have been irresistible on Wednesday night as they crushed their Portuguese opponents, but three defeats in their first four Bundesliga games of 2009 have put the pressure on the Munich side.

"We showed the real Bayern Munich in Lisbon," Luca Toni is quoted by news agency AFP as having said.

"We’ve shown what we’re capable of. The decisive factor was the whole team playing with passion and resolve. We want to get out of a difficult situation together.

"Now we need to start winning again in the Bundesliga.”

This weekend’s clash with Werder will give Bayern a chance of revenge as they were been beaten 5-2 by Thomas Schaaf’s side in September.

The north German outfit are struggling down in 11th at the moment, but they will be buoyed having knocked Milan out of the UEFA Cup in midweek.

"We succeeded against Lisbon where we’ve failed in other matches recently," said Bayern defender Philipp Lahm.

"That’s how we have to continue. We’ll enjoy the [Sporting] victory, but our focus is on Bremen."
