Dortmund Insist Subotic Not For Sale
Borussia Dortmund have rubbished reports that their coveted young defender Neven Subotic has signed for Napoli.
Napoli-based Il Mattino last week claimed that the deal was done and dusted and that the 20-year-old is set to arrive in January. 'Complete hogwash', insisted Dortmund’s general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke.
"Whether it is for 15 or 20 million euros, Neven is not for sale we will not give him away for all the money in the world,” he thundered.
BVB’s Director of Sport Michael Zorc underlined the club's commitment to keep the 6.3ft central defender by adding: "We picked up Subotic for 4.5 million euros from Mainz not to sell a season later. Neven has a five-year contract with no clauses. He is one of the most important cornerstones of our team."
Subotic has opted to pledge his allegiance to the country of his parents, Serbia, rather than the United States and is now expected to represent them in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
