Gladbach Bring Back Familiar Face To Assist Meyer
Manfred Stefes will be back roaming the halls at Borussia Park starting January 1...
Bundesliga strugglers Borussia Mönchengladbach have named Manfred Stefes as Hans Meyer's new right-hand man.
Stefes, a Gladbach player between 1988 and 1992, has filled the vacancy left by Christian Ziege, who resigned from the role just ahead of the winter break.
This will be the 41-year-old's second stint as assistant coach at Borussia Park, having worked under Rainer Bonhof, Ewald Lienen and current boss Meyer from 1998 - 2003.
"Manfred Stefes is a Borussia man, he knows the club, he knows the way Hans Meyer works and for those reasons he'll fit perfectly into our coaching team", said the club's sporting director Max Eberl.
Stefes left his position as MSV Duisburg's Under-23 coach for the chance to help last-placed Gladbach survive.
