The visiting Wolves had no response to second-half goals from Tranquillo Barnetta (57') and Stefan Kiesling (65'), which lifted the Leverkuseners back to the Bundesliga summit and kept Wolfsburg mired in midtable.

"Leverkusen kept us under pressure throughout and put on a very strong display. They are a strong side, otherwise they would not be on top of the table," said Magath after the match.

"In the first half we played solid enough in the back and didn't give them many good looks at the goal.  In the second half we weren't close enough to our men, and that is why we conceded both goals.

When pressed on why Wolfsburg have such a poor record against Leverkusen, Magath said: "I dont' know if there are teams that we simply don't play well against. All I know is that we were not scared."
