Portsmouth Move For Manuel Fernandes Despite Limited Fees
The Pompey boss is keen to sign the Portuguese midfielder despite having only £5 million for transfers...
The Portuguese international, who has won four caps to date and scored one goal, enjoyed a loan spell at Fratton Park in 2006, making 10 Premier League appearances.
Following a loan spell at Everton for the latter part of the 2006/07 season, he opted to leave Benfica for Valencia in a deal worth €18m, but failed to cement his place in the first-team at the Mestalla and returned to Goodison Park for the second half of last year.
It seems that Pompey manager Tony Adams is eager to bring him back to the South-Coast club during this transfer window, although it remains to be seen whether Los Che will sell a player who has featured in every league game this season, helping them reach second in the table.
It is also questionable as to whether a bid has been lodged, as the same newspaper also reports that Portsmouth are only willing to give Adams €5.6 m this January.
Despite receiving around €34 m for the departures of Lassana Diarra and Jermain Defoe, it is claimed Pompey's precarious financial position coupled with the €5.6 m owed to Arsenal will limit their transfer dealings this month.
