Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur are considering making an offer for Olympique Lyonnais striker Fred, according to the British tabloid the Daily Mirror.
Following his arrival at the French champions from Brazilian club Cruzeiro in 2005, the striker was considered a first-team regular and notched 14 goals in 32 league games in his first season.
However, he has since fallen out of favour with Les Gones and slipped down the pecking order with the rise of French international Karim Benzema.
The Brazilian international, who has scored five goals from nine caps, was reported to have asked for his contract at Stade Gerland to be terminated having failed to win a place in the starting eleven this season.
He has since said that he will stay until the end of his season but, with his contract set to expire in the summer, Lyon could be ready to cash in on the player now rather than lose him for nothing, with Spurs thought to be weighing up a €5 million bid.
"England is a big league and it is natural for any player to want to go there," the 25-year-old is quoted as saying.
