Lauren To Leave Portsmouth For Athens - Report
Portsmouth's Cameroonian international defender Lauren is set to join Greek club AEK Athens in the new year...
Portsmouth's Cameroonian international defender Lauren Etame Mayer (known simply as Lauren) is rumoured to be on his way out of the south-coast club in January.
According to a report in the British tabloid the Daily Mail, the 31-year-old is close to joining Greek club AEK Athens should he succesfully negotiate a pay-off for the last six months of his contract.
Lauren signed for Pompey in January 2007 for a fee of around £500,000 after he was deemed surplus to requirements at Arsenal.
While he initially established himself as a first-team regular at Fratton Park he has since fallen down the pecking order largely due to the terrific form of Glenn Johnson, and has only made one appearance this season.
"I will be moving to Turkey or Greece," the former Sevilla and Mallorca player is quoted as saying.
