Player Ratings
Fiorentina
Frey -6.5: The French goalkeeper was brilliant on most occasions but he was caught out by Floro Flores' quick thinking. He got his hand to the ball but it wasn't strong enough to stop it from going in. However, he made up for it minutes later by showing some iron fists to parry a number of good strikes. A decent showing overall.
Comotto -5.0: The stopper was useful at the back and he made a number of decent challenges. The block on Simone Pepe was text-book defending of the highest quality. He made some errors at times but he worked hard, kept his head down and helped where he could. He even had a rare chance to score for his side but his shot was a typical defender's strike. However, he ruined his game with a petulant hand-ball at the end and he was sent off.
Gamberini -6.5: Gamberini was solid down the right. He kept Alexis Sanchez quiet on the night and he made a brilliant challenge on the same player just as he was about to run through on goal. Some good play throughout and his long balls were excellent.
Dainelli -5.5: An average game from Dainelli. The stopper didn't seem his usual self as he made a number of dangerous tackles and went into the book for his efforts. Always risked plenty through some lapses in concentration and he fell asleep on Floro Flores goal as he just watched the ball rather than make a chellenge.
Vargas -5.5: The former Catania man was all over the place out on the left wing. There were some explosive battles between him and Simone Pepe. However, the Udinese man seemed to have had the upper hand. Vargas made a few good blocks but he was also guilty of giving away possession at times.
Donadel -N/A: The defender picked up an early injury and he struggled. He was later replaced by Kuzmanovic.
Felipe Melo -6.0: The Brazilian was unusually quiet on the night but he did improve. He made some good passes and his understanding with Riccardo Montolivo was great but he failed to make an impact on the game. Broke up the play but gradually became better in the second half have as his performance improved. Did the simple things well as he held up the ball and waited for the right moment.
Montolivo -8.5: The Italian was one of La Viola's better players. He was everywhere in midfield. His midweek adventures with Italy have seen him raise his game. His passing was excellent and his vision to spot Mutu's run in early in the first half was class. He kept on pulling the strings by creating chances for the front men all game. Scored two well taken goals in the second half to ensure his side took control of the game.
Semioli -5.0: Semioli hardly did anything as he went AWOL for most of the game. The only thing he did was wrong when he drifted offside. He was quickly replaced by Prandelli who brought on Mario Santana in his place.
Gilardino -7.0: The Italian striker was blowing hot and cold. At times he would just stand around, too static to be dangerous. However he became more lively in the second half but he was earthed by Domizzi, winning a penalty in the process. Always made a nuissance of himself and that was enough to distract Udinese. Scored a typical Gila goal to wrap up the game for his side.
Mutu -7.5: The Romanian took his time to get into the game. He created plenty of chances but his shooting let him down at times. Made up for it in the second half with a delightful penalty as well as an assist for Montolivo and Gilardino. A stunning show.
Subs: Gobbi, Kuzmanovic, Santana.
Udininese
Handanovic -4.5: The goalkeeper looked shaky all game. He was never really tested by Fiorentina too much in the first half but he pretty much failed every test when the Viola shot towards goal. He didn't look comfortable with anything that came his way.
Motta -5.5: The defender's super strike in the first half would have been a contender for goal of the season had it gone in. A brilliant effort nevertheless. His game seemed to end there though as he struggled for the rest of the match.
Coda -4.5: Another poor performance by the stopper. He drifted in and out of the game and he fell asleep in the second period. He didn't help his goalkeeper either as he looked confused. Failed to pick up Montolivo on a number of times and his side were punished.
Domizzi -5.5: Great defending by the Napoli man but he was over enthusiastic and too eager and this let him down. He had Gilardino wrapped up for most of the game but then he let himself down by fouling the Italian to concede a penalty.
Lukovic -5.0: Coped well at the back and made some good challenges but he never made any real impact. Very slow to react when the Viola broke on the counter attack. Left his defense too open. He dealt well with Mutu in the first period as he had the Romanian shackled but some slight changes in the home side's formation had him in difficulty.
Inler -6.0: The Arsenal target was as solid as ever in the middle. He worked hard to break up the play and his passing and vision were superb. He began to go slighly downhill after the interval.
D'agostino -5.5: An average performance. He did well for most of the match but he didn't do the things which offered a spark or an opening. Never had the cutting edge although he did help his defence and attack.
Pasquale -6.5: One of the Bianconeri's better players. He was very dangerous down the left and his play was hard to predict. Made some excellent runs in behind the defence and it resulted in him having a super strike on goal. Unluckily for him it just missed Frey's goal by inches. A stunning effort nevertheless.
Pepe -6.5: Was a handful for the Viola. His runs down the right wing as well as the way he cut in all the time always posed a threat. His performance seemed to fizzle out but he was only one of the few players who never gave up until the end.
Floro Flores -7.5: An outstanding display by the hit-man. His goal was pure genius as he performed a double drag-back and beat Frey with a stunning finish. He was always dangerous and he should have at least had a hat-trick. Although he ended up on the losing side, nothing should be taken away from him.
Sanchez -5.5: At times Sanchez has shown he is brilliant, but he could not sustain it on this occasion. Looked sloppy all game and he hardly did anything to penetrate.
Subs: Di Natale 6.0, Quagliarella 5.5.
