Reggina 2-0 Lecce

A close-fought battle of the south eventually ended up with a deserved win for basement boys Reggina over on-form Lecce.

The hosts, who had struggled of late, came out with a point to prove, but found it too difficult to break down a dogged visiting defence in the first period.

There were calls for a penalty to Reggina early in the second half after Fabiano appeared to fell Vigiani in the area, but after discussions the officials decided against awarding it.

Lecce came close soona fterwards after superb work from Tiribocchi and Caserta, but eventually the chance was saved.

Four minutes later the Calabrians took a deserved lead after Corradi buried a penalty after Stendardo felled the forward in the area.

Then right at the death Corradi had a second spot kick, this time after Giuliatto brought down Carmona. Needless to say he made no mistake this time, either.

Sampdoria 2-0 Bologna

Spirited Sampdoria managed to overcome their recent woes to leapfrog struggling Bologna.

The hosts were well on top in the first period thanks to the inventive play of Delvecchio and of course Antonio Cassano, but they could manage no goals for their efforts.

Still, Delvecchio was able to break the deadlock just after the hour mark with a great header after Paladino's cross from the right.

Eleven minutes later Bellucci made it two with a confident finish after Cassano orchestrated a superb counter-attack.

After this goal the visitors were less apt to press forward, knowing that it was essentially a lost cause, and Samp strolled to victory.

Cagliari 2-0 Chievo

Rampant Cagliari made it two wins in a row with a convincing victory over sorry Chievo.

The hosts had a goal disallowed 20 minutes in after a period of pressure, Acquafresca's goal being ruled out for an offside offence involving Lazzari.

But their pressure paid off on the half hour mark as Acquafresca put the ball in the net after a riveting piece of team action.

Marchetti had to make the last save of the half four minutes before the break as Esposito had a rare chance for the visitors, but Cagliari were well on top, as evidenced by their second half strike.

Fini netted 54 minutes in as Biondini wove his way down the left and cut the ball inside for his opposite winger to beat Sorrentino.

Marti could have made it 3-0 but for a sore-looking save from Sorrentino right at the end, but the job was done regardless.
