Torino were favoured for a victory today when they took on Swiss Challenge League team Lugano, but they were unable to score a goal despite carving out many opportunities.
Their best opportunity came when French player Dominique Malonga was fouled in the area and earned a penalty. However, David Di Michele's spot-kick was too central and the goalkeeper made an easy save.
Di Michele has not shown good form since joining Torino last summer. The player is yet to replicate the type of performances he showed at Palermo, Udinese and Reggina in the past, and which even saw him become a part of Roberto Donadoni's Italy squad for a brief time.
Torino went forward far more often than their opponents. However, they lacked composure and sharpness in front of goal and could not finish off any of their chances. Coach Gianni Di Biasi will need to motivate and better prepare his squad for the new season after looking at this performance.
Meanwhile, the club announced they are sending youngster Davide Bottone to Vicenza on loan, while Udinese's Giampiero Pinzi may join the club in a few days if the rumours circulating turn out to be true.
