Chelsea have confirmed that their young Belgian goalkeeper will spend a further 12 months on loan with the Europa League holders after impressing during the previous campaignChelsea have confirmed that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will remain on loan at Atletico Madrid for the 2012-13 season.
The 20-year-old joined the Blues last summer before being loaned out to the La Liga side, where he impressed during his 52 appearances as Los Rojiblancos finished fifth in the table and lifted the Europa League trophy in May.
Atletico released a statement last week claiming that the Belgian would be re-joining them for the coming campaign, and the news was confirmed by Chelsea on Wednesday afternoon.
A statement on the Blues' official website read: "Chelsea FC can confirm that Thibaut Courtois' loan deal with Atletico Madrid has been extended for a further 12 months.
"The young goalkeeper impressed during his time with the Spanish club last season, making 52 appearances and ending the season with a Europa League winners' medal, playing the full 90 minutes as Atletico beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in the final."
Courtois was signed by Chelsea last summer from KRC Genk, before he was immediately loaned out to the Vicente Calderon.
