Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho continues to be battered with bad news as defender Marcelo pulled out of training today due to an ankle injury, as well as the stomach flu, according to a report from Spanish-daily Marca.

Marcelo, who has received a call up to the Brazilian national team's training camp held in Barcelona, will now be forced to miss out. Brazil head coach Mano Menezes has confirmed that Barcelona wing-back Adriano will be Marcelo's temporary replacement.

The young Brazilian is also suffering from gastroenteritis and was sent home by club doctors for rest and recuperation. The news comes as another blow to Jose Mourinho, who is facing a serious injury crisis in defence.

Centre backs Raul Albiol and Ezequiel Garay are both out injured, while defensive midfielders Lassana Diarra, Mahamadou Diarra, and Fernando Gago are facing spells on the sidelines as well.

The good news of the day, however, was the return of Portuguese defender Pepe, who trained for the second day without incident and seems to have fully recovered. Mourinho should be able to count on Pepe to partner compatriot Ricardo Carvalho for Real Madrid's upcoming game against Osasuna next weekend.

Marcelo has exactly one week from today to recover from his injury, which is not considered to be serious. Should he be deemed unavailable come next Saturday, then Alvaro Arbeloa will be expected to fill in as left-back.
