I'd Love To Pull On The Dutch National Team Shirt - Real Madrid Starlet Royston Drenthe

The versatile Madridista has expressed his desire to represent Holland at senior level...

Royston Drenthe quickly became a fans' favourite at Rotterdam powerhouse Feyenoord after his debut with the Eredivisie side in 2006, and his departure to Real Madrid in the summer of 2007 came as a huge blow for the Feyenoord faithful.

The left-footed youngster was even branded a traitor by some of the Feyenoord fans, but this clearly hasn't affected his love for the Eredivisie titans.

"I love Feyenoord with all my heart and I always will. When Real Madrid come calling, what are you supposed to do? What would you do? I’m just a Suriname boy from Rotterdam, and I had to take the chance," was Drenthe quoted as saying by FIFA.com.

The 22-year-old has struggled at times since his arrival in the Spanish capital, but Drenthe still is a Madrid player, unlike more illustrious compatriots such as Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder.

The next step in his career would be making his debut for Holland's senior team and Drenthe has made it clear that he'd be delighted to represent his native country.

"I'd love to pull on the Dutch national team shirt. I feel at home in the Oranje and the pride I feel is big when I get the chance. It’s a big deal for me, and it’s a long way from where I came from when I was a boy."
