The coach has asked for time to reflect on the unprecedented success...
According to Sport, Guardiola has asked the club for time to reflect on what has happened before deciding on his future. He took over as Barcelona coach in 2008, signing a two-year deal before leading the Catalan outfit to an unprecedented six trophies in the intervening period.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the current season, the club are obviously keen to tie Guardiola down to a long-term deal and Laporta has been trying to convince the former club captain to commit to a deal since the summer. However Guardiola is believed to be wary of committing to a contract extension before next year's presidential elections as he is waiting to see how the shift in power will affect his role.
"On the plane, Pep told me that he needs time on the decision to renew. He wants to digest what has happened and I'm sure the break will allow him to do so," Laporta said.
"We know he is very thoughtful and he knows better than anyone what is good for the club. He wants to [sign], is willing to do, but there are many factors that require reflection, however I am personally optimistic about him continuing.
"We understand the importance of having a deal and a project in place from a certain date so ideally Pep will decide before the end of the season."
