Jesus Navas Confident Sevilla Will Retain Top Three Spot
After his last minute strike helped see off Atletico Madrid on Saturday evening, Navas hopes his side's win has cemented their top three credentials...
Jesus Navas struck late on to sink Abel Resino's Atletico Madrid side and give Sevilla a crucial 1-0 victory to further confirm their position in the top three in the Primera Division.
Despite a inconsistent run of results in recent weeks, tricky winger Navas has been the one player who has stood out on a regular basis for Sevilla, contributing three goals and eight assists in what has been arguably his best season since breaking into the first team.
The 23-year-old is now in his fifth year in Adalusia and is clearly enjoying his football, and hopes that their crucial home win over a resurgent Atletico side will go a long way to confirming Sevilla as the third best side in the division behind big guns Barcelona and Real Madrid.
According to Marca, Navas said, "These were a very important three points against a direct rival of ours, and we are in a very good position in the league.
"I am glad that I personally played well but it is the work of the whole team that is most pleasing."
When asked if Sevilla had enough depth in their squad to challenge Real Madrid for second spot in the table, Navas said that the objective of his side was to simply keep winning.
He concluded, "We need to concentrate on games week to week, there are still many points available and we must continue with the same intensity to remain at the top."
Next up for Sevilla is another tough match, a trip to San Mames to face Athletic Bilbao next weekend.
