Another serious injury for Roma captain Francesco Totti might force the club to return to the transfer market next month to add some fire power to their front line.

'Er Pupone' looks poised to stay on the sidelines for up to two months and sporting director Daniele Pradé is weighing up different options to cope with his absence.

The main target seemed to be Atalanta revelation Sergio Floccari, but any bid for the 27-year-old is likely to hit a brick wall now, as the Bergamaschi have insisted that he is staying put until at least next summer.

Therefore, the Lupi are seriously mulling over the possibility of pursuing Giampaolo Pazzini, who is destined to depart Fiorentina in January.

However, the Gigliati are expected to demand a hefty transfer fee for the 24-year-old – around €10 million – and the former Azzurrini man would ask for wages of no less than €1m per season.

In order to finance the deal, the cash-strapped Eternal City outfit would first need to trim the squad, and one man who could leave Trigoria seems to be Brazilian right-back Cicinho.

The former Real Madrid defender is reportedly in negotiations with a number of clubs in his homeland and his departure could provide the cash to reel in 'Pazzo'.

Nonetheless, Sampdoria have not given up hope of securing his services and the Romans will have to beat off their competition.
