Fiorentina Summon Prandelli To Emergency Meeting

The coach has been called up to face the music but no-one will be dancing. He's not on the chopping board but in for a slap on the wrist.

Fiorentina have called an emergency meeting between the club's owners, sporting director Pantaleo Corvino and coach Cesare Prandelli after they were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Lyon dashed any glimmer of hope the Italians had of qualifying as they beat the home-side 2-1. Prandelli wasn't too disappointed after the game even though the Della Valle brothers, who own the club, left furiously before the final whistle, perhaps knowing their time in Europe's elite competition was up.

Florence based newspapaper 'La Nazione' claims there will be an emergency meeting at the Artemio Franchi between club, coach and directors.

Alarm bells are ringing for Prandelli but his job is unlikely to be on the line. The meeting is more of a 'where next?' gathering where plans for the rest of the season will be rearranged.

The UEFA Cup is likely to be their first talking point as the club can still qualify for that competition if they beat Steaua Bucharest in matchday six.

New stadium plans will also be on the agenda as the club has backing from the Tuscan region as well as city authorities.

Whether or not Prandelli has the support from the club is another question. The coach has been outstanding for his side and he is amongst the candidates to win the Serie A coach of the year award in January.
