The tome of truth that is the Daily Mail claims that Manchester City have singled out Fabio Grosso, the Olympique Lyonnais defender, as the solution to their problematic left-back slot.
Mark Hughes currently has Michael Ball and Javier Garrido at his disposal, neither of whom have been able to nail down a spot in the first team.
Thus, the Eastlands boss has been keeping an eye out for suitable replacements, and Grosso has worked his way to the top of the pile.
It is believed that Hughes initally had some reservations about the 31-year-old's ability to cope with the pace of the Premier League, but some excellent showings in the Champions League of late have assuaged those fears.
The Citizens will opening the bidding at €7 million, but with their limitless resources they are unlikely to mind if OL jack up the Italian's price a tad.
Grosso might not be the Sky Blues' first choice for the left side of defence, as they have also been tracking Wayne Bridge - but Chelsea have told Hughes and co to look elsewhere.
