Atletico Madrid easily strolled past Racing Santander 4-1 last weekend to stay well on track to breach the top four before the mid-season break. It was another typically barnstorming attacking display, one that has cast all the attention of the team’s offensive line.

In an interview with AS, winger Simao Sabrosa expressed his satisfaction with his side’s current resurgence but also warned of the need to maintain their winning run.

“In the month of December, we must focus solely on La Liga and try to win the three games we have left before the Christmas break if we want to break into the top four,” he said.

“There will be direct confrontation between all the teams above us and because of that, they will have to share out the points. And Atletico must be ready to take advantage of that,” the 29 year old added.

When asked if he along with Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan have formed one of the most lethal attacking tridents in Europe, he was quick to play down the fearsome combination.

“Forlan and Aguero are great players with a strong winning mentality, but in Atletico, there are many other quality players. This team is more than just Kun, Diego or Simao.

“Everyone in the squad is working well and when the team win, it’s not only because of the contribution of those who scored.

“We have a very good group of players who are very committed and a coach who is constantly helping us,” he concluded.

Atletico Madrid are currently sixth in the standings on 21 points, five behind their crosstown rivals Real Madrid who occupy fourth spot.
