Much is expected from Paulo Assuncao at Atletico Madrid, and the Brazilian affirmed that from what he has already seen the club have a "strong group" and promise to deliver the goods next season.
Having won the league title with FC Porto last season, he joined an Atletico side who are still looking to find their identity in a very demanding competition. However, the defensive midfielder doesn't see this as a step backward in his career, but rather a step forward.
"For me it isn't (a step backward). For me it is a step forward because Atletico are also a club who have won lots of titles, and now they want to be the champions again," stated the 28-year-old.
"The objective here is the same one as at Porto: win. Atletico are one of the three most important clubs in Spain, everyone knows this. From the first day here you begin to realize that you are at a special club with lots of people behind us, and with a massive fan base."
Assuncao admitted that he is very ambitious, and insisted that Atletico have the necessary "talent, quality, youth, and determination" to win a title next season.
"We have to get into our heads that we are a big team, that we want to win big things. I have come from Porto to win. But this is only achieved day by day, during the training sessions, improving in each round," he concluded.
