The Daily Mail, one of Britain's top tabloids, claims that Jermain Defoe will leave Portsmouth after Tottenham Hotspur wrapped up a deal worth just under £16 million.
The 26-year-old left White Hart Lane for Fratton Park in a £7.5 million deal only a year ago, having become disenchanted with his role as third-choice striker behind Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane.
Defoe has impressed at Pompey, netting 14 goals in 30 Premier League games, but he has made no secret of his desire to return to North London now that both Berbatov and Keane have moved on.
This would be the former West Ham United man's third spell under Harry Redknapp, having played under him at Upton Park before linking up against at Portsmouth.
However, these reports are nothing more than paper talk at this point, as neither club have yet made an official announcement.
