Reports have been swirling around suggesting that Portsmouth knocked back a cumulative £30 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur for trio Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Glen Johnson.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, recently Pompey manager, is a known admirer of Defoe, and apparently wanted to raid Fratton Park for his in-form partner in crime, Crouch, and highly-rated full-back Johnson while he was at it.

However, 'Arry has now denied the rumours, although he admits that he could continue to pursue Defoe with a view to his New year capture.

Asked about the alleged bid by Setanta, Redknapp said: "It's absolute rubbish.

"Defoe, though... if we could agree a fee with Portsmouth, then fine.

"He is a good player, but if Portsmouth don’t want to sell him then that is up to Portsmouth."

The gaffer then admitted that a bid had been made for West Ham United's renaissance man Crag Bellamy, saying: "We made an offer for Craig. West Ham turned it down, then made it public knowledge - otherwise we wouldn’t have mentioned it."

He also described his reported interest in Atletico Madrid star Luis Garcia as "absolute rubbish".
