Alan Hutton went from being a much-maligned Rangers hothead to a £9m Premiership star in an unbelievably short period of time.

In 2005, he made a rash challenge during a home match against Kilmarnock and was sidelined for eight months with a broken leg. When he returned, though, he was reborn and his blistering displays at right-back sent his career into orbit.

He established himself as a Scotland starter and would soon become a transfer target for the Premiership giants. After a drawn-out transfer saga, he eventually opted to join Juande Ramos' seemingly resurgent Spurs.

However, Hutton is currently recovering from a stress fracture to his right foot, watching Spurs' stalling revolution from the treatment room.

Still, the 23-year-old insists he can come back strongly, just as he did for Rangers, and justify the praise showered upon him by the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho.

Speaking to the Daily Record about Fergie's recent insistence that he's a world class full-back, Hutton said: “Obviously it's one of the biggest compliments you can get when people of that stature speak well of you.

“It's great to be spoken highly of by the top managers, but the one thing I want to do is get out on to a football pitch and start proving it for Scotland and Spurs.”

Asked about his injury, he continued: “It's a silly wee injury, to be honest. Rest seemed to be the answer, as I thought I just had a problem with my ankle, but it turned out to be a stress fracture. Sometimes a broken leg can heal faster.

“But I have had knocks before and I have always managed to come back, so that's what I’m looking for again.”
