Cristian Ledesma’s deal with Lazio will expire in 2011, but the Argentine midfielder’s agent has repeatedly warned that they could employ FIFA’s Article 17 next summer to liberate himself from his contract and depart the Italian capital.
The 26-year-old has drawn interest from the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan and the Italian giants were expected to renew their rivalry on the Calciomercato in the summer to secure Ledesma’s services.
But Florentine paper La Nazione claims that the Gigliati have pipped both to the signature of the midfield ace thanks to director of sport Pantaleo Corvino, who unearthed him in Argentina in 2001 and brought him to Lecce, where he played over 100 games until 2006 when he was snapped up by Lazio.
However, the newspaper’s enthusiasm might be short-lived, as Ledesma’s agent Vincenzo D’Ippolito has often insisted that Article 17 cannot be used to join another Italian club and this loophole could only pave the way for a move abroad.
