Lazio have had a great first half of the season, as they have amassed 27 points from the opening 17 rounds to sit in a comfortable seventh position.

The Biancocelesti have been brilliant in all departments this term, and with 26 goals scored thus far, they have been a potent force up front, with the likes of Tommaso Rocchi, Goran Pandev and new signing Mauro Zarate performing well on a consistent basis.

Zarate in particular has been phenomenal, as he started the season with a bang, and has found the back of the net on eight occasions at this stage of the campaign.

As a result of his good form, he has been strongly linked with a move away from the club in recent times, and many believe that the player should move on, as it would strengthen his chances of playing for the Argentinean national side.

Despite this however, the attacker has confirmed in a recent interview that he wishes to remain with Lazio, and that he would like to renew his contract with the club as soon as possible.

“The people at Lazio are great, and I don’t have any words to explain my devotion for such a club,” Zarate beamed in an interview with Teleradiostereo.

“With this in mind, I would like to renew my contract with them very soon, as being here is beautiful.

“I do not think that what I'm experiencing is true, but it is, and I want to continue this journey,” he added.

Zarate went on to make a final comment in reference to his side’s match against Palermo at the weekend, and his own individual performance in the 1-0 victory.

“I was angry because I played poorly, and if I continue to do that, I won’t be expecting a call up to the national team from Maradona.

“My goal is to play for Argentina, but I have never received a call from the coach, and after that bad performance against Palermo, I understand why,” he jokingly concluded.
