Mauro Zarate has taken Serie A by storm and has quickly become a cult figure at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio brought him in on loan during the summer and are expected to take up an option to purchase his full rights from Qatar-based side Al Saad by April 30, 2009.

However, they will need deep pockets to complete the deal, as the alleged transfer fee is in the region of €15 million, with the player demanding at least €1.5 million per season.

But according to Datasport, outspoken Lazio chief Claudio Lotito, who is known in Italy for his frugal ways, is already at work to cash in on his investment and is prepared to slap a €25 million price-tag on the 21-year-old starlet.

The club who seem prepared to meet his demands are Real Madrid.  They are desperately trying to fill the void left by Dutch forward Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who will be out for the remainder of the campaign after damaging knee ligaments.

The Spanish champions have been linked with several Serie A stars in recent weeks, including Hernan Crespo and Diego Milito, but the talented Laziali youngster has apparently become their main target.
