Lazio captain Tommaso Rocchi reacted angrily to the news that he had been omitted from the starting XI for the home match with Genoa at the weekend.
He made a substitute appearance in the second half, but voiced his disappointment at Delio Rossi’s decision after the encounter, sparking speculation that he could head for the exit door in January.
“We will certainly discuss these things today,” Igli Tare told Radio Radio this morning.
“He has always maintained an exemplary attitude so far, but players have to understand that some decisions are made only to benefit the team as a whole.
“Everyone has to work for the good of the group and must respect the trainer’s choices.”
The 31-year-old Rocchi was beset by injury problems at the beginning of the campaign and is now struggling to reclaim his place in the line-up following Mauro Zarate’s emergence.
“He is our skipper and has to lead by example, as his responsibilities are much bigger,” Albanian director Tare continued, “Lazio are one of the most important teams in Italy and it’s just normal that key men can be benched.”
