The Biancocelesti currently sit in fifth spot in the Serie A standings with 22 points from the opening 12 matches. They have made their best ever start to a Serie A campaign, giving them cause to remain optimistic about achieving great things this term.
Despite their 1-0 slip up against Roma in the Derby della Capitale last weekend, Delio Rossi’s men remain just one point outside the top four, as Napoli currently occupy that golden final Champions League spot on 23 points.
In the lead up to the crucial contest with the high flying Genoa this weekend, attacking midfielder Pasquale Foggia has come out and declared his side’s ambitions for the campaign, and what they want to achieve in the process.
“We must put the derby performance behind us now, and look ahead to the future, because we can only improve from here,” Foggia said.
“Our main objective and ambition this season relates to qualifying for the Champions League, and it is something we are putting all of our time and effort into achieving.
“We approach every match with a positive mentality, and believe that we can win, because we know that each point we attain will help us in our cause,” he concluded.
Lazio’s sporting director Igli Tare feels the same way, as he believes that his side is good enough to finish in the top four this term.
“If we are in this same position in February, then I believe that we will be a massive chance to make the Champions League,” he said.
“We have shown that we are better than Napoli, Fiorentina and Roma, and we can certainly achieve what we please,” he concluded.
Those words from Tare are sure to cause some controversy, as both Napoli and Roma have already defeated the Biancocelesti by an identical 1-0 score line at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome this campaign.
