The Argentine has become an immediate hit in Italy ever since completing a move from Qatar side Al-Saad this summer.

The man nicknamed Zarate Kid by Laziali supporters has been on inspirational form in the first months of the campaign and the Aquile are expected to make his transfer permanent before the deadline of April 30, 2009.

The Biancocelesti secured the 21-year-old on loan last July with an option to acquire his full rights for a fee of around €18 million over the course of three years.

The outspoken Lazio chief has reassured the demanding fans over the past few weeks that he will be able to finance the deal and the starlet’s brother Sergio has no reason to believe Lotito is bluffing.

“We just know one thing: if he will take up the option before April 30, 2009, and I am sure he will, Maurito will keep wearing this shirt for five more seasons,” he told newspaper La Repubblica. “We have a verbal agreement with the president...”
