Lazio suffered their fifth defeat of the campaign, as they went down 1-0 to fierce rivals Roma, thanks to a second half goal from Julio Baptista earlier tonight.

Following the contest, the Lazio boss believed that just “one moment of distraction” cost his side at least a point on the night.

His side were reduced to ten men midway through the second half, following the dismissal of Cristian Ledesma, however they did manage to be just as competitive in the closing stages of the contest.

“The derby is always a special game, and tonight was no different. There was a lot of tension, at times too much, something which we struggled to deal with.

“The match lacked fluency, and we could not put many passes together throughout. We also failed to capitalise on their mistakes, and this was very disappointing,” he added.

The standings have generally not had an impact on the final result of a derby in the past, and this was reinforced again tonight, as heading into the round, Lazio were in fifth, whilst the Giallorossi were in a dismal 17th position.

Rossi felt that his side were as good as the Giallorossi on the night, and so he is bitterly disappointed with the final result.

“We have to evaluate what we have done well so far, not only tonight, but also earlier in the season, and I’m sure that we will bounce back well next week,” he concluded.

The Biancocelesti remain in fifth spot, however they are now five points off the pace set by Inter Milan.
