After a goal drought of four years, veteran striker Simone Inzaghi finally found the net again tonight, and it came at an important moment, as it allowed Lazio to avoid an embarassing home defeat to Lecce in the 89th minute.
"Yes, it's a liberating goal," he said after the match, "but I'm happy because we did not deserve to lose. It's a good point, even though we deserved to win."
The 32-year-old dedicated tonight's goal to two people in particular, as he explained: "I dedicate this goal to my uncle, who passed away this week, and to myself, because for two months I worked silently, I never gave up and now I've been repaid."
Just a couple of months ago it seemed as if Lazio no longer wanted him, but now the striker confirms he still wants to play an important role for the Biancocelesti.
"I'm not giving up hope. Tonight I knew I would come in, though I hoped it would be earlier on. In any case, I'm happy I was able to help my team mates," he concluded.
Inzaghi had scored his last Serie A goal back in the 2004/2005 season, also for Lazio.
