Rocchi picked up an injury against Korea on Sunday which it ruined his Olympic dream, forcing him to withdraw.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has already blasted Italy over the blow and Rossi has now joined in the grumbling.

“I am very concerned about Rocchi’s injury,” moaned Rossi to Sky Sport Italia. “I am pleased when my players get called up for international duty, but I would like it if they came back in one piece.

“I would have been much happier if that was the case.

“The team? It’s competitive, but maybe it’s time to return to the market. We need a midfielder with good characteristics.”

Lazio are hoping to build a team which can improve on last year’s shambles. The team missed out on Europe and will be desperate to make amends this season.
