Two of La Liga’s most injury-plagued teams this season, Real Madrid and Sevilla, will go head to head on Sunday in match that could potentially eliminate one from the title race.

The Andalucians will have to make do without main striker, Luis Fabiano, who is suspended but club president, Jose Maria del Nido still believes that his men will be able to surprise at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

“He [Luis Fabiano] is an important player and his absence will be a huge loss for us,” he was quoted as saying by AS.

“But this Sevilla team still has the potential to go to the Bernabeu and win without him,” he added.

Del Nido then went on to speak about the injuries that have besieged his team so far this season, a crisis that his opponents this weekend can relate to.

“When you lose 11 players to injury in a squad of 25, the effects are easily felt. It is something that is happening even to Real Madrid and they are a club with huge resources.

“But right now, we do not have any intentions of reinforcing the squad. History has shown that players who arrive during the winter break will only really start working the following season.”

Finally, the president concluded by giving his views on the recent match-fixing allegations: “These days, I do not believe things that are said.

“Even though Sevilla have not affected by these unpleasant issues, it still hurts football.”
