Phil Kitromilides believes the South Americans will ruin the fairytale for Jordan by claiming a vital win without conceding a goalIt is fair to say that Uruguay were not too distraught to have finished fifth in South America's World Cup qualifying campaign, given that the talented Celeste side knew an eminently winnable play-off against Jordan awaited them.
Boasting a team full of superstars, the South American champions are priced at 1/4 (1.25) with Coral to claim victory, while the Middle Eastern minnows can be backed at 10/1 (11.00).
There is, of course, little reason to back against Uruguay and the bookies are wary of just what a potential mismatch this could be, even though the home side have had to progress from a qualifying group themselves in order to set up this tie.
Investing in the visitors to score over 1.5 goals could well have been of interest had it not been priced at just 2/5 (1.40).
That is just too small a price to consider despite it having an excellent chance of paying out, so instead we can look at the "Win to Nil" market, where Uruguay are offered at 7/10 (1.70).
Jordan have been far from prolific, failing to score more than a solitary goal in any of their last seven matches.
Given the quality of the opponents in those games (Zambia, Kuwait, Oman, Uzbekistan to name but a few)
Jordan will struggle to break down a rugged and vastly experienced Uruguayan defense.
At the other end of the pitch, of course, Oscar Tabarez's side should have little problem in finding the back of the net. This is a team that have only failed to score once in their last seven games outside of Uruguay, netting against the likes of Spain and Brazil in those ties, so they should have little problem holding up their end of this bet.
As always, it is a challenge finding value when one team are such overwhelming favorites, even on the road, yet Uruguay to win without conceding is offered at a price just about big enough for us to consider and is thus worthy of an investment in Wednesday afternoon's match.
