Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano is in optimistic mood ahead of Argentina's 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Paraguay.

The 28-year-old has been encouraged with developments in recent months, following a string of good results and performances.

"We have always been inconsistent and have never been able to record many games with positive results," he told journalists upon his arrival in Buenos Aires.

"But the last few games we have been good so we are hoping to continue in this way. We are optimistic looking ahead."

The former Liverpool man is set to miss Argentina's clash with Paraguay on September 7 due to suspension, but, will be available to face Peru in Lima four days later.
