Falcao wants to see an improved Colombia against Ecuador

The Atletico Madrid star does not feel complacent after seeing their upcoming opponents blown away by Argentina, and warned that the altitude in Quito could be a key factor

Colombia striker Radam el Falcao insists his team will not be taking Ecuador lightly in their upcoming World Cup qualifier, pointing out that the Cafeteros will have to give a better performance than that seen in Peru to take down their rivals.

The two sides, who meet in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito on Sunday, endured wildly contrasting fortunes in the fifth round of the Conmebol campaign, as Jose Pekerman's men took a vital 1-0 victory away to Peru, while the Tricolor were blown away 4-0 by Argentina in a one-sided contest.

According to Atletico Madrid ace Falcao, however, results from the last weekend mean nothing when it comes to the upcoming clash.

"Now we are hoping to do greater things in Quito," the highly-rated forward explained during Tuesday's press conference in Bogota.

"[Ecuador's defeat] does not change in the slightest we have planned for the game in Quito. This type of result can occur against Argentina, but Ecuador are tough at home and we know that the defeat will not discourage them."

Quito lies some 2800m above sea level, and the altitude poses a daunting challenge for visiting teams. Falcao explained that his side's physical condition would be more important than ever if they wanted to take another three points.

"We have to handle the fatigue. It requires decent recovery work and that is how we can arrive in top form for the Ecuador match, and show a bit physical effort in the altitude of Quito," he stated.

Colombia will prepare for the upcoming test by training in the capital city of Bogota, which at 2650m above sea level closely mirrors the conditions that will face Falcao and Co. in Sunday's encounter.
